Too Little Sleep
More than 40 million Americans get less than the recommended minimum amount of six hours of sleep per night, according to a study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Those who work at night are affected most, with 44 percent of night shift workers getting less than the recommended minimum. Health care and transportation workers make up a large percentage of those who work at night. Researchers estimate that approximately 20 percent of accidents are caused by inadequate sleep.
