This week in the Triangle, your child can learn about flying creatures at a program at Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, play at the inclusive Sassafras All Children's playground in Raleigh, learn to fish with staff at Crabtree County Park in Morrisville and enjoy a performance of the ballet Sleeping Beauty in Raleigh.
Naturalist Class: Life in the Air
Your child can join in this small group setting and study wings of all kinds of flying creatures. They’ll want to keep their eyes open for newly emerging butterflies, listen for freshly hatched baby birds and search for out-of-reach animal homes. This program takes place at the Doris Duke Center at Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham. One class is available for kids ages 5-6 May 14 from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and another more in-depth class is available for ages 7-9, 10:30 a.m.-noon. The fee is $7 per class for members and $10 per class for others. A parking pass is included with advance registration.

"Sleeping Beauty" is one of a trilogy of great Russian ballets, and the story of Princess Aurora is one of the best-known fairy tales of all time. One fateful day, she pricks a finger on the thorn of an enchanted rose and falls asleep for 100 years. Enjoy Carolina Ballet’s magical performance, complete with the magnificently fearsome dragon that must be slain by the prince before he can awaken Aurora with his kiss. Performances run May 17-20 at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. Tickets range from $32 to $96 each and can be purchased here.
