Sweet Family Fun: National Watermelon Day in Raleigh, Durham
Love watermelon? You're in for a treat this week as Triangle venues are celebrating National Watermelon Day with family fun activities!
On Thursday, Aug. 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., take the family for free watermelon slices at the State Farmers Market, in Raleigh. View the enormous entries for the "Largest Watermelon Contest" and see who's the North Carolina Watermelon Queen this year.
On Friday, Aug. 3, the Museum of Life and Science, an 84-acre indoor/outdoor science park in Durham, is celebrating Watermelon Day with a watermelon feast for animals and humans. Enjoy special Meet the Keeper sessions throughout the day and watch as lemurs and farmyard animals receive frozen watermelon "pops" while bears swim for whole watermelons. The museum's Sprout Café will be offering an assortment of refreshing watermelon meal options, including watermelon salad and a special watermelon popsicle. Explore the science behind your favorite summer treat with a morning of melon experiments!
