July 6, 2016 UPDATE: Carolina Theatre announced today that this screening has been canceled due to Lucas Film Ltd.'s pulling all scheduled national theatrical screenings of the films. What follows below is the original blog published Feb. 5, 2016.
Jedis, Siths and Wookies in the Triangle are in for a treat this summer when the original classic trilogy of "Star Wars" films returns to the big screen in Carolina Theatre’s Fletcher Hall in Durham Aug. 5-7.
Tickets for individual "Star Wars" Trilogy movie screenings are $10 and go on sale Friday, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. Ticket purchases can be made online, by phone at 919-560-3030 or in person at the Carolina Theatre Box Office at 309 S. Morgan St., Durham. Carolina Theatre will also offer four different blocks, with each block including all three movies. The blocks are all-day Friday, Saturday or Sunday as well as weekend evenings at 9:35 p.m. Blocks are $25 and are only available over the phone or in-person at the box office. They are not available online. View the block schedules here.
The Trilogy — “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” — was withdrawn from theater distribution for 12 years. Now those who first met Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca in theaters in the 1970s and 1980s will be able to relive the experience along with younger fans who followed in their footsteps.
