Spend Time With Your Little Ones May 1-4
Celebrate strawberry season with your little sweeties at the State Farmers Market’s Strawberry Day, May 4.

Spend some quality time with your little one this week with these great events for the younger set.
Children work with their caregivers to create ceramic artwork in these fun classes offered by Durham Arts Council. This week’s project: aquatic animals! Sessions take place at the Clay Studio at Northgate Mall and are offered 10-11:30 a.m., Monday, May 1; 4-5:30 p.m., Monday, May 1; or 4-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 2. Registration ($15 per child) is required.
Preschool and homeschool families may take advantage of Classroom Open Hours, an open-ended exploration in Sarah P. Duke Gardens’ Brenda Brodie Classroom, located in the Doris Duke Center. Tinker to your heart’s content, rearrange moving parts and explore the nature museum and teaching library, play in the “squishy corner” specially made for small people. This drop-in event runs 1-3 p.m. every Tuesday in May at Duke Gardens in Durham. Admission is $3 per child or $10 per family.

Bring a favorite stuffed animal and spend an hour reading books, doing crafts, playing games and enjoying a snack at the Teddy Bear Picnic. This event takes place 9-10 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, at Immaculata Catholic School in Durham. Ages 5 and younger; must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Free.

Strawberries take center stage in this celebration of one of North Carolina’s sweetest crops. Enjoy games, a strawberry recipe contest, a visit from mascot Suzy Strawberry and free samples of strawberry ice cream, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, May 4, at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh. Admission is free.
