Wake County government announced Oct. 24 that it has opened its its fifth prenatal clinic, Millbrook Human Services Center, which is located at 2809 E. Millbrook Road in Raleigh. The move is designed to serve its residents by improving pregnancy outcomes.
“We are excited to provide more convenient prenatal care for mothers-to-be in the Millbrook area,” says Dr. Kimberly McDonald, Wake County medical director. “Regular prenatal care is key to healthy pregnancies. By making care more accessible, we hope to make it easier for women to keep their appointments and follow through with care plans to improve the health of their babies.”
Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal care are three times more likely to have a low birth weight and five times more likely to die than those who are born to mothers who do get care.
The new prenatal clinic offers a range of services and benefits, including:
- Pregnancy physicals
- Prenatal education
- Bilingual providers
- Shortened waiting times
- An on-site laboratory
- Connections to WIC, nutritionists and pregnancy care managers
