Museum of Life and Science's Santa Train Ticket Sale Dates Released
Tickets to the museum's 42nd anniversary Santa Train are expected to sell out quickly

The Museum of Life and Science's annual Santa Train will celebrate its 42nd anniversary this holiday season and tickets are expected to sell out quickly. Sale dates for tickets to this popular holiday experience in Durham are listed below, so mark your calendars now.
Dash and dance your way through an inflatable forest and an enchanting rainbow light tunnel. Sip complimentary hot chocolate under thousands of captivating lights or grab a light snack at Sprout Café. Get crafty with take-home activities, have your face painted by makeup artists, and indulge in the “Science of Santa!” Skate in your socks on the synthetic “ice rink” or warm up in the Magic Wings Butterfly House, where it is 80 degrees year-round! Then, climb aboard the Ellerbe Creek Railway for a memorable night-time train ride to the North Pole where you’ll be greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Claus and their elves. Don’t forget to score that special gift from our holiday pop-up museum gift shop before heading home with precious memories.
Climb aboard the Ellerbe Creek Railway for a journey to the North Pole. Enjoy a ride through thousands of twinkling lights as you make your way to meet Santa and his elves. Back at the station explore festive activities including:
- Face painting by Paint Savvy
- “Science of Santa” activities
- Take-home crafts
- Holiday music and light displays
- "Skate in your socks" synthetic ice rink
- Complimentary hot chocolate
- Pop-up Museum gift shop
- Magic Wings Butterfly House and Insectarium

Sensory-Friendly Santa Train:
The Santa Train goes sensory-friendly on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the train times of 5:20 p.m., 5:40 p.m. and 6 p.m. for guests with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other similar needs. Train rides exclude train whistle, yelling in the tunnel, ambient music, and flashing lights. Additional staff and volunteers from UNC TEACCH Autism Program will be on-hand to assist guests. Cool down kits, noise-cancelling headphones, and social narratives available upon request. Train rides after 6 p.m. will return to full light and sound. If you are unable to ride at this date and times, cool down kits, noise-canceling headphones, and social narratives will be available for all Santa Trains.

Supporting Members: Oct. 28, 9 a.m.
Explorer Members: Oct. 30, 9 a.m.
Business Members: Nov. 4, 9 a.m.
General Public: Nov. 5, 9 a.m.
Santa Train 2019 Dates, Prices and Times:
Nightly: Gates open at 5 p.m. and close at 9 p.m.
Trains leave every twenty minutes from 5:20 p.m. through 8:20 p.m.
* Early Trains: 5:20-7:20 p.m.
* Late Trains: 7:40-8:20 p.m.
Dec. 4-8: Early trains: $18; Late trains: $15
Dec. 11-15: Early trains: $22; Late trains: $19
Dec. 18-22: Early trains: $25; Late trains: $22
Children 2 and under ride free, in the lap of a paid adult. Processing fees will apply.
Santa Train is an after hours event. General admission to the Museum is not included in your ticket cost. Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be available at the Admission Desk or event check-in location. Proceeds from this event support the Museum's mission to create a place of lifelong learning, where people from young child to senior citizen embrace science as a way of knowing about themselves, their community, and their world.
