Kroger Co., the nation’s largest traditional grocery retailer with 14 stores throughout the Triangle and North Carolina, has announced that children can now receive a free piece of fruit at their local Kroger store as part of the company’s Free Fruit for Kids promotion.
Inside every Kroger in the Triangle, there will be a basket stocked with fresh fruit such as bananas, apples and clementines. Depending on demand, other fruits may be in rotation as well. Kids under age 12 who are shopping with a parent or guardian are invited to select their own piece of fruit from the basket on every visit to Kroger.
“At Kroger we understand the importance of encouraging kids to eat healthy foods,” says Anne Jenkins, spokesperson for Kroger’s Mid-Atlantic Division. “Through our Free Fresh Fruit for Kids promotion, we hope children will become excited to eat more fruit and, in turn, develop positive attitudes toward other healthy foods that contribute to their overall wellness.”
This program aims to instill healthy eating habits in children by providing them with an accessible, healthy snack while shopping. Moreover, Free Fresh Fruit for Kids hopes to promote positive attitudes towards healthy foods by giving children something to look forward to when visiting the grocery store with their parent or guardian.
