Voting in Durham on Election Day? Your child can also cast a vote at 20 Durham precincts through Kids Voting, a nonprofit, nonpartisan, voter education effort program of the Durham County Co-operative Extension.
Through Kids Voting, pre-kindergartners through 12th graders can vote on the same candidates and issues as adults, 7 a.m.-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, at these 20 precincts. Staffing the Kids Voting effort will be community and youth groups that include Partners for Youth Opportunity, City of Durham Youth Commission, Riverside High School students, Hillside High School Sorority, SoDu Brownie Troop, Girl Scout Troops, Thomas Mentor Leadership Academy and NC MomsRising.
According to a Kids Voting Durham press release, more than 15,000 students cast Kids Voting ballots at early voting events in schools and at early voting sites. Kids Voting results will be available early Wednesday morning on the Kids Voting website, kidsvotingdurhamnc.org, or by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-560-7321. Local education business Measurement Inc. has donated ballots and tallying services to ensure that Durham youth receive their voting results as quickly as the adult results.
