This weekend in the Triangle, Durham residents can visit the Museum of Life and Science for free Jan. 11, the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh shows visitors how animals influence artists, Kidpower hosts a safety workshop at Quest Martial Arts in Raleigh and the Raleigh Fire Museum teaches families about firefighting.
Community Day at the Museum of Life and Science FREE for Durham Residents
Durham County residents can get free admission to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham on Friday, Jan. 11. Throughout the year, the museum offers these free-admission Community Days, listed here (scroll to the bottom of the page to view the dates), which help families save money, since admission costs between $15-$20. Visit 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and show an ID with proof of Durham County residence in order to obtain free admission. Each adult resident can bring as many as five children.

Weekend Family-Friendly Tours: Moo, Chirp, Roar! FREE
On Jan. 12 or 13 at 10:30 a.m., families can look for creatures big and small in the galleries at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh. Find out how artists were inspired by feathered, furry or ferocious animal friends while checking out the pieces on display. Meet at the museum’s West Building Information Desk for this activity. No preregistration is necessary.

Children ages 7-12 and a caregiver can practice using “People Safety” skills in everyday life situations at this informative workshop scheduled for Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at Quest Martial Arts in Raleigh. Using games, role-playing and stories relevant to the children's ages Kidpower teaches skills in a way that is age appropriate, effective without being scary, and adaptable as children grow. These skills can help kids feel safe and confident when dealing with strangers and people they know. To register, contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. The fee is $55 per child/caregiver pair. Fee assistance is available.
