With Hurricane Irene headed toward coastal North Carolina, many venues are deciding whether to hold family-friendly events scheduled for this weekend. Make safety your number one priority. Stay abreast of weather reports, and if you do venture out, call ahead to ensure that activities are still scheduled. In a decision affecting one of the weekend's signature events, The Town of Cary has cancelled Saturday's Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival because of the significant potential for unsafe conditions due to high winds from Hurricane Irene. The event will not be rescheduled for later this year. Next year's Lazy Daze is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25.
