Paperhand Puppet Intervention, the awe-inspiring puppet troupe, will return to the Triangle Aug. 4 with the 18th annual theatrical giant puppet pageant spectacle for all ages — Of Wings and Feet, an annual show brought to life with gigantic puppets, elaborate masks, stilt walkers, multi person marionettes, shadows and illuminated puppets, and the sounds of the Paperhand Band.
“This year is a wild ride for us all as we discover the piece together with our hearts set on shifting the current paradigm. It’s an absolute adventure in art!,” says Paperhand co-founder and director, Donovan Zimmerman. "We are really trying to have our shows be an antidote to some of the craziness in the world.”
“It’s so inspiring to see so many people (hundreds!) from cast members and musicians to volunteers and kickstarter supporters along with others who put so much time and energy into this project ” says Jan Burger, Paperhand co-founder and director. “We are in awe at the magnitude and scale these productions have taken on. We’re just along for the ride.”
The Paperhand Band this year is an exciting mix of veterans like Jonathan Henderson (base/keys), Will Ridenour (kora/percussion) and Pete Lewis (drums/effects) along with newcomers to the pit Shana Tucker (Cello/vocals), Beverly Botsford (percussion/sounds), and Quran Kerriem (trombone/keys). This dynamic ensemble created the original score to this year's show and is worth the ticket price right from the start.
