Lots of fun things are happening this weekend in the Triangle. Your family can check out the action at NC Comicon in Durham, learn disc golf at Harris Lake County Park in New Hill, get your preschooler ready for Kindergarten at the Wake County Public Library, enjoy a dance celebration of Christmas in Raleigh, and hear storytellers under the stars in Chapel Hill.
Experience comic book pop culture in all its glory in Durham this weekend. Your family can meet local and international comic book creators and peruse comic books, toys and collectibles in the vendor fair at NC Comicon – Bull City, Nov. 10-12 at the Durham Convention Center. There are cosplay contests with lots of categories, including one for kids 13 and younger. Show hours vary depending on the day, and admission varies depending on how many days you plan to attend. This instructional event is for players of all levels to learn or hone disc golf skills. Professionals from Capital Area Disc League will be at Harris Lake County Park in New Hill to provide lessons for participants from beginners to more experienced players. Register for an introductory session on Nov. 11 at 9:30 or 11 a.m., or an advanced skills session at 11 a.m., and head out onto the course afterward to practice your new skills. Bring your own discs or borrow theirs. This activity is FREE, but everyone attending must preregister.

Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers can participate in an interactive program involving alphabet crafts and other prereading skills at many locations of Wake County Public Libraries. There are sessions throughout the day on Nov. 11 — and most other Saturdays — at library branches all over Wake County. This whimsical presentation of ballet, jazz and tap dances has become a favorite holiday tradition for many families in the Triangle. Your family is sure to enjoy every part of this classic tale complete with visions of sugarplums, tapping reindeer and a variety of life-sized dancing toys. Santa will make a festive appearance, delighting the audience with his latest dance moves. Two shows at the Fletcher Opera Theater at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts are set for this weekend: Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. Tickets start at $25 plus fees and are available here.

Enjoy stories beneath the Morehead Planetarium's starry sky, followed by a trip through the universe. The storytellers are students at UNC's School of Information and Library Science. All stories will relate to something in the night sky, stars, constellations, the Milky Way and more. This FREE event is intended for ages 7 and older, and is set for Nov. 12, 4:30-5:30 p.m. No advance registration is necessary.
