Explore Programs, Win Prizes at Camp & Education Fair
One lucky visitor to the 2012 Carolina Parent Camp & Education Fair Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, will walk away with $1,000 to spend at the camps and education programs that participate in the event.
Sponsored by Triangle Orthopaedic Associates, the Camp & Education Fair at Cary Academy features a door prize of $1,000, courtesy of Carolina Parent, to be used at one of the camp and education vendors at the fair. Only adults may enter the drawing.
More than 1,200 parents attended last year's fair, which featured 65 different camps, schools and educational support services. It's a one-stop shop for summer, day, residential and track-out camps, recreation programs, private schools, and educational support services.
Compete for prizes
This year's event also features a fun competition and a giveaway, both sponsored by Great Outdoor Provision Company in Raleigh and Chapel Hill.
The competition will see three teams consisting of one parent and one child attempting to set up a tent correctly in the fastest time. The winning team will receive a tent, valued at $500, from Great Outdoor Provision Company. The tent competition will start at 2 p.m.
So how do you get to be one of the three teams?
Carolina Parent invites readers to tell us, in 200 words, their funniest camping story. Email it by Feb. 13, 2012 (new deadline), to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line Funny Camping Story. We'll run the stories online and the funniest ones in print in our February edition.
A panel of Carolina Parent judges will select the three funniest stories from the bunch and invite those storytellers to be our tent-competition builders at the Camp & Education Fair.
In addition, Great Outdoor Provision Company will bring a backpack and a variety of camping items. Everyone who attends the Camp & Education Fair can participate in this guessing game: How much would the full backpack weigh? The closest guess will win the backpack and its contents.
Demonstrations also new this year
In addition to gathering great information about camp and education programs available for children at all ages and stages, visitors will also be able to watch demonstrations from some of the fair participants.
The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. Plenty of parking is available.
