Day 6 — Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption
We uncovered an opportunity to help others hiding in plain sight.

The plan for today’s act of kindness was to pay for the order placed by the person in the car behind us at a drive-thru. Our intention was that when the car got to the window they would be told their order was paid for already and we had hoped it would bring a smile to their face. Only one problem with this plan, no one got in line behind us!
Oh well, I decided we could bump that idea to another day. We paid for our own order and headed home. We were at Wendy’s to take advantage of the $0.50 Frosty deal they are running right now. On a hot day like today, a Frosty sounded like a good idea.
When we got home and were emptying the car, I noticed there was a lot of writing on the Frosty cup. Normally I wouldn’t have paid much attention to the cup, but today I let my curiosity guide me. As I read the cup I knew we had been given a different opportunity to help. We followed the directions on the cup and unlocked and shared the Snapcode. By doing this Wendy’s will donate $5 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
We had uncovered an opportunity to help hiding in plain sight. Normally I would have been too distracted to pay attention to the cup. It makes me wonder how many other opportunities I overlook each day. I am thankful things worked out as they did in that drive-thru line. I have a soft spot for organizations devoted to children’s issues, and I think the work this one is doing is extremely important.
I learned that this foundation has a number of programs that run in conjunction with the Wendy’s restaurants each year, including the Halloween Frosty coupon books. I will be back in the fall to purchase those and feel even better about it because the money goes to this organization. I’m more than happy to do my small part to help. I believe that all children deserve to be part of a loving family and organizations like this one help children in need find forever homes.
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has one mission: to dramatically increase the number of adoptions from foster care. Founded in 1992 by Wendy’s® founder Dave Thomas who was adopted, the Foundation believes that every child deserves a loving family. We are North America’s only national nonprofit charity dedicated solely to finding permanent homes for the more than 117,000 children waiting to be adopted in the U.S. and 30,000 waiting in Canada.
