Carolina Parenting Inc. has announced the 2012 N.C. Family-Friendly 50, including seven companies that are receiving the honor for the first time and three companies that have made the list for 14 consecutive years.
Companies appearing on the list for the first time include Coastal Federal Credit Union (multiple locations throughout the state); Coleman Lew + Associates Inc. (Charlotte); Copernicus Group IRB (Research Triangle Park); Inmar (Winston-Salem); Kao Specialties America (High Point); Olive Law Firm (Charlotte); and Workplace Options (Raleigh).
Lyerly Agency in Charlotte with six employees, Replacements Ltd. in Greensboro with 448 employees, and Rex Healthcare in the Triangle with more than 5,000 employees have received the honor since the program's inception.
Since 1999, Carolina Parenting, which owns Carolina Parent, Charlotte Parent and Piedmont Parent, has recognized family-friendly businesses that help employees achieve work-life balance with forward-thinking programs, services and benefits. The companies, large and small, support and encourage working parents with various options ranging from flexible work hours, telecommuting options, maternity/paternity leave, health and wellness programs, in addition to more unique offerings such as onsite playrooms for employees' children, free coupon classes, onsite farmers markets, and onsite dining.
"In addition to standard benefits, companies are also implementing innovative programs such as academic coaching, free concierge services, financial planning and stress-management courses to assist working parents," says Mark Ethridge, the president of Carolina Parenting. "We applaud these companies for their strong commitments to work-life balance."
A complete list of the 50 companies for 2012 is at the end of this release.
Companies were selected in partnership with UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School based on nominations and information provided by the companies about available benefits, programs and company culture. Only nominated companies that provided the additional information were considered for recognition. Information about each company is included in the September editions of Carolina Parent, Charlotte Parent and Piedmont Parent magazines, on stands starting Aug. 29.
