The Parenting Media Association announced the 2017 winners of its annual Editorial and Design Competition during a banquet held at the conclusion of a three-day annual convention held this year in St. Petersburg, Florida. Awards are given for editorial and design submissions reflecting 2016 content. Carolina Parent received the following awards:
GOLD – Calendar of Events
SILVER – Website General Excellence
SILVER – Best e-Newsletter
Charlotte Parent, Carolina Parent's sister publication, earned a general excellence silver award for its "GPS — Go. Play. See." family resource guide.
Katie Reeves, group publisher of Carolina Parent and Charlotte Parent magazines, represented both magazines at the awards banquet and says she was, "blown away" by the "culture of parenting and publishing."
The PMA, a nonprofit representing the family media market since 1988, received 548 entries for 2016 magazines issues and digital products. Reuben Stern, a professor in the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism, oversaw the judging. In sum, 148 awards were given in editorial categories, 84 in design categories, 23 awards for Ancillary Publications, 19 awards in the Digital Media space and 29 for General Excellence.
“Our awards recognize the best work done in our industry,” said PMA President Mary Cox. “Our member publications engage with families throughout the U.S., Canada and Australia, be it through print, websites, email, social media and events. Our collective goal is to making parenting easier — after all, it’s the most important job in the world — and even more of a fun ride.”
