Sensory-Friendly Performance: Bud, Not Buddy

Date/Time

March 28, 2020
02:00 PM until 03:30 PM

Description

It’s 1936 in Flint, Michigan, and 10-year-old Bud is sure about two things: he wants to find his father, and he is not called Buddy. Follow him as he sets off on an epic journey of discovery, set to the soulful sounds of jazz.

Adapted by Reginald André Jackson from the original novel by Christopher Paul Curtis

While Theatre Raleigh strives to make all performances accessible, sensory-friendly performances are specifically designed to create a performing arts experience that is welcoming to all families — including children and adults with autism or other disabilities that create sensory sensitivities.

Sensory-friendly performances include:

  • Lower sound level, reduction of loud or startling sound
  • Reductions in flashing or strobe light
  • House lights remain on at a low level during the performance
  • Audience members are free to talk or move during the show, including leaving their seats during the performance
  • Designated space for standing, movement, as well as quiet area
  • Fewer tickets sold for that performance
  • Extra support from trained staff and volunteers

If you have any questions or specific accommodation requests, please contact Morgan Parpan, Education Director, at education@theatreraleigh.com or (919) 832-9997 ext. 1005
