Beginning Flamenco: Bulerias (Ages 14 and up)

Prior registration/payment required. One day workshop. In this class, we will learn one of the basic rhythms that defines flamenco dance: bulerias, a twelve-count beat. We will explore arm movements and marking patterns that emulate this rhythm! No shoes or hardwood floors required. This workshop is designed for new and repeat students. Choreography will differ from past workshops.
This class will take place using Zoom. Registered students will receive a link approximately 24 hours before the class.

LARISA ‘RISA’ GEARHART-SERNA has been dancing since the age of three, including ballet, jazz, country western, latin forms, and swing, but she fell in love with flamenco dance. Dancing with the National Institute of Flamenco in Albuquerque, NM, as well as with numerous artists in Oakland, San Francisco, New Haven, and Durham, she now brings her love of the dance form to this community. She is currently a PhD student at Duke University in pathology and environmental toxicology.
