This week in the Triangle, get a free sports physical for your student-athlete, check out skate and Zumba demonstrations at Carpenter Park in Cary, learn how caterpillars turn into butterflies at a program at Blue Jay Point County Park in Raleigh, explore life on a dairy farm at Historic Yates Mill County Park in Raleigh and enjoy free admission to the Nasher Museum of Art in Durham.
Duke Health is offering free school sports physicals to student-athletes in grades 6-12 this week. On Aug. 20 from 3-5 p.m., get your student’s physical at Duke Orthopaedics Heritage in Wake Forest, On Aug. 23 from 3-5 p.m., get a physical at Duke Orthopaedics of Knightdale. No appointment is needed. Forms are available to download or from school athletic trainers.

Pop-Up in the Park FREE
On Aug. 20, 3:30-5:30 p.m., all ages will enjoy the family-friendly activities at Carpenter Park in Cary. Sk8-Cary and Zumba for kids will also be on hand to demonstrate. This activity is free and requires no registration.

On Aug. 22, 10:30 a.m.-noon, kids ages 7-14 can explore life on a dairy farm at a program at Historic Yates Mill County Park in Raleigh. Attendees will learn about cow breeds; how milk can be made into butter, cheese and other products; and participate in an ice cream social. Caregivers are welcome to drop off registered participants or can stay if seating is available. The fee is $7 per child and preregistration is required.

Kids ages 3-5 and their caregivers can learn about metamorphosis Aug. 22, 1-2 p.m., at Blue Jay Point County Park in Raleigh. Find out about this process that changes caterpillars into butterflies, hear related stories, participate in themed activities and visit the park’s butterfly garden to find caterpillars and butterflies. The fee for this activity is $4 per child and preregistration is required.
