What is the Fit Family Challenge?

carffclogocropped.jpg

The Fit Family Challenge is a healthy lifestyle program for Triangle families. We're motivating families to get moving and create healthier lifestyles. Watch this WRAL news video from last year's Fit Family Challenge to learn more. The Fit Family Challenge officially runs April 21-June 15, 2015, and is in partnership with Coca-Cola. Our sister magazines, Charlotte Parent and Piedmont Parent, are also hosting a Fit Family Challenge, so we will have a friendly competition against both regions. GO TRIANGLE!

How does my family participate?

To participate, register online and track activities for a chance to earn points and win prizes. Early registration opens April 1, 2015. If you registered for an account last year, you will NOT need to set up a new account this year. Your login and password information will still be available to you. Forgotten passwords can be recovered via the password reset function.

How much does it cost?

It's FREE. There is no cost for registration or the online Fit Family Challenge Activity Tracker.

When will it be too late to join the Challenge?

It's never too late to get started! The last day to earn points online is June 15, 2015. You can also follow our 2015 spotlight families for inspiration: the Gomezes and the Ojalas. They will be working with our panel of experts. Check out last year's spotlight families: the Hudsons and the Armstrongs!

How do you define family?

A family is at least one child under age 18 and one adult in the same household, including grandparents caring for children. Participants under 18 years old must be included in a family registration account with at least one adult participant.

How do we qualify for prizes?

To qualify for prizes you must be registered! Register online to begin. To qualify for the Grand Prize drawing, you must also earn at least 100 points by logging your activities in our online Activity Tracker. The more you participate and track your activities online, the more chances you have to win. An additional entry in the drawing is contributed for every 100 points earned. (i.e. the Smith Family earns 300 points, which equals three Smith family entries in Grand Prize drawing.) Please note: Only points logged between April 21 an June 15, 2015 are valid.

What can we win?

The grand prize for the 2015 Fit Family Challenge is a family vacation to Universal Orlando® Resort! There will also be weekly prizes valued at $200, which includes a $100 gift card and TWO Misfit wearable fitness trackers. There will be a Gold Star prize valued at $450, which includes TWO Misfit Shine wearable trackers, a gift card, healthy cookbooks and more, given out during week four to one randomly chosen Fit Family Challenge account holder who has logged at least 150 minutes for the first four weeks of the challenge (for a total of at least 600 minutes of logged activity). Be sure to start tracking early!

How do we track activities?

Register online and begin entering your activities in our Activity Tracker. Each time you log an activity, you earn points towards the grand prize drawing. New this year: Our online fitness tracker allows families to multi-select more than one family member per event or activity, so account holders will no longer have to individually assign events or activities to each person who completes them.

Once we are registered, how do we earn points?

It's easy to earn points! Log into your account. Do any or all of these activities and mark them completed online:

  • Exercise or get active for at least 150 minutes per week (100 points).
  • Practice healthy habits daily/weekly (10 points/habit). Healthy habits are defined in the online Activity Tracker.
  • Attend special events and fitness or wellness classes (100 points/class or event). View the current event/class schedule. There is no limit to how many participating classes* you can attend. Free class coupons are available for download after registration. *Restrictions may apply at class location.

Families are considered one unit. Family points are combined and entries are added for each 100 points earned as a family, or individual, to the grand prize drawing in June.

Why are you tracking points AND time?

We are tracking points because the more points each family earns, the more entries into prize drawings those families will have. We are tracking time because we are competing against our sister magazines to complete the most minutes of activity throughout the challenge. So get your game faces on and help us win!

How can children participate in the fun?

Parents are able to download a Kids Activity Tracker, so young children can get in on the fun. Post it on your fridge and let them fill it out each week, then post the healthy habits in your family account for more points. Kids can attend some events, too! (Age restrictions may apply.)

If we win a weekly or monthly prize, are we still eligible for the Grand Prize?

Yes! Weekly and monthly prize winners are still eligible for the grand prize drawing as long as they have earned at least 100 points.

Do we have to attend fitness classes to win?

No. But we encourage your family to attend as many fitness classes and special events as possible. Each event or class attended earns you 100 points. Please note: You must receive an event code and enter it into the system with the event name to receive the bonus points.

How do we maintain our healthy lifestyle after the Fit Family Challenge?

The Fit Family Challenge will teach you a lot about fitness and good nutrition. You can keep it up throughout the year. Also, you can visit our Fit Family blog, subscribe to our Healthy Families e-newsletter and pick up Carolina Parent magazine for healthy tips each month.

Download the official Fit Family Challenge rules.

We're confident that if you follow the challenge and get active for at least one month, you'll be on your way to adopting a healthier lifestyle for your child(ren), yourself and your entire family!
