News about Wegmans grocery stores in the Triangle travel faster than you can spread Wegmans Organic Almond Butter on a freshly baked Wegmans bagel.
In April of 2017, a developer submitted a rezoning request to the Town of Cary for a plan that included a Wegmans grocery store across the street from Cary Towne Center Mall. Then, six months later, Wegmans announced a second grocery store coming to the Triangle in western Cary near Davis Drive — although that store location will be smaller than originally proposed and will likely be finished sometime in 2020.
Around the same time the second store was announced, we also learned that a Wegmans store will go up on nearly 15 acres of US 15-501 and replace the Performance Auto Mall. Development is already underway for a Wegmans in Raleigh off of Wake Forest Road between Six Forks Road and Interstate 440 (next to Trader Joe's) and is expected is be completed by fall of 2019. And most recently, the popular grocery retailer has announced plans to build a store on the N.C. 98 bypass between Capital Boulevard and Siena Drive in Wake Forest. No timeline has been given for the project.
If you’ve ever set foot in a Wegmans, you already know it’s a haven of heavenly goodness. Josef Brunner artisan meats, freshly brewed coffee and espresso, desserts to die for, a gourmet cheese shop, a Mediterranean olive bar, magnificent celebration cakes, fresh flower arrangements, endless candy dispensers ...
Going to Wegmans is not an errand. It’s an EVENT.
I experienced Wegmans for the first time a few years ago in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, while spending Christmas with my husband's parents. Visiting Wegmans is one thing. Visiting Wegmans at Christmastime is quite another. I was there for 2 hours and could have stayed longer.
As final negotiations take place for building this gourmet grocery extravaganza on a 90-acre site in Cary across from Cary Town Center, let us count the ways I predict Wegmans will make your life better — and more glorious.
