Looking for a way to support arts education in local public schools? Become a patron! Just take a look at the variety of arts events coming our way at schools in Wake, Durham and Orange countie,s as well as in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.
Wake County Public Schools
WCPSS offers a wide array of performances and exhibits throughout the year to promote the arts programs of its many schools. Upcoming events are often highlighted in “Morning Announcements,” on the WCPPS Web Site at www.wcpss.net. Parents can also find information about specific school programs through the school Web sites, accessible from the system’s home page.
Their annual “Pieces of Gold” (performing arts) and “Gifts of Gold” (visual arts) showcases, scheduled for March 10, 2010, showcase the creative excellence of arts students across the district.
Durham Public Schools
All Durham schools offer visual and performing arts programs, and four schools—Durham School of the Arts (secondary school), Club Boulevard Magnet Elementary School, R.N. Harris Elementary School, and W.G. Pearson Elementary School—feature arts-intensive curricula. Detailed event calendars for each school are available at www.dpsnc.net.
DPS holds six district-wide arts events each year, including Durham’s Finest Art Exhibit at N.C. Central University’s Art Museum Jan. 10, 2010.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools
Schools in the CHCCS offer multiple theater, band and choral programs and a visual arts program that includes pre-K students. Use the system’s Web site, www.chccs.k12.nc.us, to access information for individual schools.
The district also hosts their system-wide “Visions” art show April 13 – 16, 2010, at Lincoln Center, home of the system’s administrative offices.
Orange County Schools
The Orange County schools offer chorus and band opportunities for students in elementary, middle, and high schools in addition to theater and visual arts. Contact information for individual schools is available at www.orange.k12.nc.us.
